High Purity Extractions provides pharmaceutical grade extraction and processing in a GMP grade facility. Our Supercritical Co2 extraction methods preserve and protect terpenes and cannabinoids leaving no residues or solvents behind.
We offer two methods of contract CBD extraction, CO2, and ethanol. These can yield various products such as crude extract, distillates of full or broad-spectrum, isolates, and non-detectable-THC CBD oil.
Here’s how we do it, and what kind of products our methods yield.
Crude CBD Extract
Our most basic process, crude CBD extraction, begins with a dried, de-stemmed, and/or milled hemp, verified by third-party lab testing to be compliant with CBD regulations (that is, it contains less than 0.3% D9-THC by weight). We then begin the process of extraction by adding a solvent—either ethanol or CO2—to the biomass. Typically, ethanol is used for mass-quantity extractions because of its low cost, efficiency, and classification by the FDA as “Generally Regarded as Safe,”. However, supercritical CO2, though pricier than ethanol in initial capital investment, can produce extracts with an equally high purity product with great stability and long-term viability. Once the crude product is extracted, we put it through a filtration process to remove any impurities, before recovering the ethanol using a falling film evaporation process. We can also perform a decarboxylation process in order to activate the CBDA to CBD. The result is a fully winterized and decarboxylated crude oil. Crude oil has a great overall profile, but due to the consistency and bitter taste is typically not used in ingestible goods.
To yield CBD distillate products, we employ the same process used to make crude CBD oil—ethanol or CO2 extraction, filtration, falling film recovery, and decarboxylation—and then we run the product through the additional step of wiped film distillation. The result is a much cleaner and higher-concentration of CBD oil. The distillate is a lot cleaner and palatable, therefore it is used in many consumer goods formulations (i.e.-tinctures, vapes, edibles, and cosmetics). Isolating CBD is simply adding an additional process once the material is distilled. It is performed in an isolation reactor and results in pure CBD crystals forming which is then converted into a finer powder which everyone knows as isolate. Click here to learn more about our isolate products.
Non-Detectable THC (NDT) CBD Oil
To create NDT CBD oil, we subject the source biomass to the same process used to make crude CBD, but we use a sophisticated CO2 chromatography process with no co-solvents in order to render a fully compliant, Non-Detectable (<0.1%) product suitable for wholesale distribution.
